RE: 1st Annual EPT F1 Kart Race

The first annual race was a success. There was more rubber flying than a prom night. Everyone survived relativly unhurt. Howie and Killer are sore from a wicked crash near the end of the race. The karts are definetly a little worse for wear. In the end Howie,Curtis,Paul,Jeff,Killer (twice)all got black flagged and pulled off for a penalty stop...Scroggy did it voluntarily.
In the end Jeff came back and won the race with Howie second ,Brad was third, Curtis was forth and Paul was fifth. Jeff also had the fastest lap time.
A second Race between just Jeff, Paul, Scroggy, Curtis and Killer saw Curtis win, Paul second, Jeff Third, Killer forth and Scroggy fifth. Jeff also had the fastest lap time.
Speaking of lap times, Jamie had the best "lap time" at the bar both before and after the races.
Another great time had, and we sure will have another tomorrow night.

RE: ER Vintage 440 IFS X QUESTION

Hey Jerry I agree with you. Computers and programmable ignitions should not be alowed in vintage nor should any suspension parts that are not the same dimensions as the original. The bulkhead shock mounts trailing arm mounts and 4 bar mounts sway bar locatoin and chaincase location should all be original unless racing in the x class. What screwed it up was allowing this stuff for a couple of years and then changing the rules. I am rebuilding my battered sled back to original so that I can race both IFS and X classes. Im not a ringer by any means but I have raced this sled for years even when vintage was non existent and the sled was considered "current". My sled has all the original front end components and even has the original rear suspension rails. The shocks are even vintage Morazocci units off an 83 twintrack. Even my motor is a trail sled motor with steel bore cylinders and the old Bosch ignition.
BTW Yes i can set the timing on a breaker point magneto. I havent had to until this year when I raced a 1970 olympic in Eganville. I flipped it in hotlapping 50 yards from the gate. Man those things are a handful!!!
Im one of the "old guys"

RE: ER Vintage 440 IFS X QUESTION

Phil I know in ER they are picky in the IFS class but the X class is a little more open. In the EPT there is only one IFS class and as long as the sled is a trailing arm sled and the bulkhead is the same dimensions as the original they will let you race. I know that Devin Fackrel has a 78 and it has either 79 or replica trailing arms and he was allowed to race in both the IFS and X classes. I was disallowed in the IFS class because my stabilizer was not in the original position. Go to www.vintagesleds.com for some heated debates about this.
Good luck...

RE: 2009 and Beyond Class Proposal

If thats the case then we should put a claim rule on junior sleds to keep the 20K+ sleds out of there. Some junior teams are better funded than some champ teams. Like in karting the rich teams with the latest equipment will do most of the winning. Unfortunately there are rich parents that will spend what it takes to make their "golden boy" win. I think that the Junior class should be limited to F500 chassis with 380 0r 440 fan cooled stock motors. Next step is to put in a 500 motor and race F500. No champ style chassis until you graduate out of junior. Hell some of those Junior sleds are full blown champ sleds with fancooled motors. Way too fast in my opinion.
Phil I agree the cost has to come down but I think this is the best way and the safer way.

RE: Post pardom racing season disorder

LMAO So far I got up at 5:00am and travelled 5 hours one way this last Sunday to find a patch of ice to test and spend the whole day clutching then leave at darkto pick up the mother in law at the airport at midnight. This weekend im gonna strip the vintage sled and see whats salvagable. Next week Im gonna dyno test engines and burn off all that left over c16, Somewhere in there i have to have dinner with my wife one night. OMG where is my wife??? Oh ya she has gone to Australia. Im good for another couple of weeks.(whew) When she gets back I have arranged a night with a bunch of my race buddies to go bash some gokarts. Next night is the SCM banquet. A day or two to recover and wer'e off to Jamaica for a couple of weeks. When we get back from Jamaica the ice should be gone and out comes the boat. When its not a good day for fishing I have that vintage sled project. And did I mention I have a wife? The champ sled could use some spare parts and I guess I could build some of those pipes I promised that would be ready last december. Other than that im free to relax!!!!

RE: 2009 and Beyond Class Proposal

So its the cost. Do you think we should ban all expensive parts? Data computers are over $1000.00 What about billet clutches. they are around $1000.00 What about wahl skid frames. they are over $1000.00 How about anything over $1000.00 would be illegal. That would hurt racing and those supplying the racing parts.
BTW 106 tracks last as long or longer than 116 tracks. On a junior sled I would expect a 106 track to last years. They weigh about the same as the 116 camoplast 13.5" and the reason they are expensive is because they are hand built in limited numbers. If the demand goes up and Kimpex makes a bunch the cost will go down. Banning them will make them more expensive and less obtainable.
Low budget teams can buy used tracks from champ teams. George has sold many used tracks to sprint sled teams and they have had great success.

RE: 2009 and Beyond Class Proposal

Whats the big deal about 106" tracks? Is it the cost or that they have an advantage due to their design. I think banning something because it is better will just hurt the sport.

RE: Changing the Derby Dates to Feb in 09

As the name implies, Worlds Championship means that all associations send their best and the winner is crowned Worlds champion. Up until now the EPT has been at a huge disadvantage because Eagle River is usually our first opportunity to get on a race track that season. A lot of stuff is untested and not properly setup. Most Western racers have 2-3 races under their belts and their stuff sorted out coming into ER. Jacques and myself this year showed that our new setups needed a lot of testing before becoming competetive and it bit both of us. We need ER to be the last race of the year even if it conflicts with BJ. It should be a season finale with the best of the best there to find out who is the true Worlds Champion for that year. There are a lot of other great tracks that need to have all their regular drivers show up at, especially those that are going for championships in their association. Conflicting dates will always occur and it is inevitable that certain promoters will be pi$$ed off because they want a good show with as many drivers as possible. I say to you Todd have your vintage weekend where it is now and plan the WC in March similar to how the old World Series used to be.

RE: Who should be my end of the year Top 10??? (Updated BJ List)

Not sure about the top ten but there is one guy that deserves the "Studboy Stud of the week" Jacques Villeneuve in Eganville was back on his sled basically a month after his injuries suffered in Eagle River. Not only did he come back,,, but he came back to win! it was only a couple of mechanical gremlins that kept him off the podium! Most thought he would never walk again this year let alone race. In his words. "Im a son of a b1tch" and here he is back racing healthy kids less than half his age and beating them.
Go Jacques!:C

RE: Eganville Sunday??

Matt was again dominating the racetrack flying wide open into the turns. It was tough to see Matt pull off coming out of turn two but $hit happens. Jacques was also flying but as racing luck goes, it was not his weekend. He derailed coming out of turn 4 and parked it in the pit lanes. Dustin lapped the rest of the field except for DeJong and showed that the East has some catching up to do to compete with the best of the West. Philipe Roy-Lalonde in his first 15 lap final found out that endurance is important as he faded in the final laps allowing Jeff DeJong to chase him down and pass him on lap 13 for second. Richard Scroggs found some speed and was holding pace with Dejong throughout the early stages of the race. He finished fourth within sight of Philipe.
Tim Hibbard was the only injury of the weekend. His season is over with a broken leg just above the ankle after hooking the inside rail in the F500 class. Tim was driven back to his home town for medical treatment. We hope he makes a full recovery and comes back to again show the F500 boys how its done!
Next week is Haliburton and the Highland Cup. We invite any Western drivers from all classes to come to the Haliburton Race. The EPT payout will be in full effect with guaranteed payback to all pro clases go to www.scmracing.com to see the payout schedule.

RE: Shawinigan Results anyone??

The Sunday Pro Champ 440 final in Shawinigan was a race of attrition. Philippe Roy jumped to an early lead with Jason Smith in hot pursuit. Jason looked to overtake Philppe but had his fuel tank shake loose causing him to drop out. Philippe's engine began to sputter and he pulled off putting Jason lavallee in the lead with rookie Jeff Dejong in second and Tony Petenelli in third. Jeff Dejong caught a rut and put it in the bales leaving Tony in second. Tony then dropped out putting Larry Day and Mike platt battling for Second and third. Larry derailed letting Platt by for second and Larry Limped to the finish in third. Richard Scroggs inherited 4th.
Next stop is Valcourt to the Yvonne Duhamel facility
